First Solar Profit Jumps on Thin-Film Module Demand

Abstract:
First Solar Inc., the world's biggest maker of thin-film solar power modules, said second- quarter profit more than doubled, beating analyst estimates, on greater demand for its lighter, lower-cost technology.

Net income rose to $180.6 million, or $2.11 a share, from $69.7 million, or 85 cents, a year earlier, the Phoenix-based company said in a statement today. Profit was expected to be $1.65 a share, the average of 20 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Sales doubled to $525.9 million.
