Luna Hires Vice President of R&D for Nanotechnology

DANVILLE, VA | Posted on January 29th, 2008

Luna Innovations Incorporated announces Krishan Kumar, Ph.D., has joined the company as Vice President of Research and Development (R&D) at its Luna nanoWorks division in Danville, Va. In this role, Kumar will be providing strategic and tactical leadership to the R&D team of Luna nanoWorks.

Kumar is an accomplished pharmaceutical manager and scientist with 19 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Prior to joining Luna nanoWorks, he held several management positions with Merial Ltd. (a Merck and sanofi-aventis Co.), including Executive Director of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology and Executive Director of Pharmaceutical Product Development. During his tenure with Merial, he led the Pharmaceutical Product Development group (including formulation, process, analytical and pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism) that supported world-wide registrations of several products.

Kumar also played a key role in establishing a new state-of-the-art Reference Standards Laboratory at the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) where he served as Laboratory Director. Additionally he has worked at Bristol Myers Squibb, Bracco Research USA, and the National Cancer Institute. As a recognized expert in the pharmaceutical industry, he has served on the expert committees of the USP and chaired an American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists focus group.

Kumar received his doctorate in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, and his bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemistry from Agra University. For more information on Luna Innovations, see www.lunainnovations.com.
