Plan for sun power from photovoltaic arrays in Southwest to end oil dependence, lower air pollution

Abstract:
Although the plan assumes some reductions in the cost of photovoltaics and increases in efficiency, Zweibel said the assumptions are conservative, based on past performance.

They don't take into account nanotechnology-based improvements now under development that promise significant boosts to photovoltaic performance, he said. It is likely that technological innovations will make photovoltaic equipment perform better at lower costs than those assumed in the plan, said Zweibel.
