ISRAEL - Bar Ilan University makes solar cells 10x bigger thanks to Nanotechnology

Abstract:
Nanotechnology Prof. Arie Zaban manages to create a solar cell that is 100 times bigger.

Israel-Times.com sun solar system nanosolar Prof. Arie Zaban, Head of Bar-Ilan University's Nanotechnology Institute, is a leading expert in photovoltaics, a technology that uses the sun's rays to produce electricity. Using nano-based methods, he has managed to create a solar cell that offers 10 times more surface area. And Prof. Arie Zaban concentrates on the powers of nanotechnology to cut production costs as cost remains the most important factor in the success of solar technology.

One of his latest patents allows to reduce the amount of platinum needed by a factor of 40. For this, he found a way to produce platinum nanodots, tiny crystals measuring only a few nanometers in diameter.
