Abstract:
Henkel launched a glass cleaner based on this idea in 2004, and by last year, all Henkel window cleaners contained the hydrophilic technology. Called Nano-Protect, it makes use of silica nanoparticles with a chemical composition similar to that of glass. During cleaning, the particles align themselves on glass and ceramic surfaces to form a uniform, invisible film. Their negative charge keeps nearby particles at a distance and makes the surface water-attracting. (find this part about 3/4 the way down the page.)
