Independent R&D CEOs See Expanding Opportunities
Abstract:
R&D: What are the strongest opportunities now facing your organization?
“The opportunities are plentiful, because we work on solving some of the nation’s and world’s most significant problems,” says Battelle’s Kohrt. “These include energy production, global climate change, homeland security, better transportation systems, new materials for industry, and a better infrastructure for the nation. We also anticipate solid future opportunities in key ‘science and technology signature areas’, such as fuel cells, nanotechnology, bioproducts, biomarkers, and knowledge management. And finally, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which we co-manage, expects to complete the nation’s largest science project in 2006—the $1.4 billion Spallatin Neutron Source—which holds great promise for future developments in nanomaterials, polymers, superconducting magnets, and aerospace technologies.”
