Abstract:
There are increasing signs that big players in the mobile phone market are calling on nanotechnology to give them an edge. Nokia and Motorola, for example, have invested in their own in-house research groups to build up expertise in nanotech, and they're also keeping an eye out for developments by startups and academic researchers. In the short term, new coatings and materials engineered at the nanoscale should make thin phones stronger and more wear-resistant -- and even self-cleaning.
