Abstract:
In 1951, Alec Guinness starred in The Man in the White Suit, a crazy comedy about an inventor named Sidney Stratton who develops a miraculous material that never gets dirty and does not wear out. The humble and eccentric Mr. Stratton created the material in a series of backroom experiments. Around the same time that Mr. Stratton’s miracle material met its unfortunate demise, research began in nanotechnology, a field that holds the most promise for making his fictional fabric a reality.
