Better Light Bulbs

Abstract:
At Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, physicist Shawn Lin thinks that in the future, light bulbs still could rely on tungsten, but in a very different form that could transform wasted heat into more light. He is working to replace tungsten filaments with tungsten photonic crystals.
