Fermenting nanowires

Abstract:
The future of nanotechnology relies heavily on the ability of researchers to find construction techniques through which nanoscale structures assemble themselves from molecular constituents. Borrowing from nature, researchers now demonstrate the use of proteins derived from yeast as templates for directing the self-assembly of conducting nanowires.
