Nano in the Art - Exhibition and Competition at NanoIsrael 2010 Conference

"For the first time in Israel, NanoIsrael 2010 is proud to host an exhibition of works of art based on nanotechnology. Epson will sponsor the exhibition and provide prizes for the top three selected works, as judged by a jury of experts in the arts and sciences." This is an excerpt from the competition flier. I personally welcome any NanoArt related event, and I am glad that this new discipline is catching up so fast. The only problem I see at this event is: the organizers do not encourage the NanoArt development. Instead, an artist who wants to submit his/her work to the ‘Nano in the Art' exhibition has to be fully registered, and the fee is a little too steep for showing only one artwork. Should the artist be present at the event? This would be the ideal, but with this economy... Isn't the show missing a larger competition and good artworks because of this limitation? I bet, it does. Not to mention that this exhibition apparently is sponsored by Epson. Doesn't Epson make enough money to sponsor the production and the showing of 30 prints? But, hey, we live in a market economy and everyone has the right to charge for their services! I just wonder...

And, a couple of more things for the organizers: this new art discipline is called ‘NanoArt‘, not ‘Nano art'; since this discipline is fundamentally different than Photography, the final works are not ‘pictures' or ‘nano pictures', they are ‘images‘ or ‘nano images‘.
