Materials Research Science & Engineering Centers (MRSEC): Research Experience For Teachers (RET) Research Experience for Teachers (RET) is a summer program that provides K-12 teachers and pre-service teachers with an outstanding environment for continued professional development. The goals of RET are to give teachers an opportunity to experience: the scientific method in forefront areas of materials research, a hands-on research experience in laboratories and specialized, advanced MRSEC facilities, the use of materials research instrumentation, and the opportunity and techniques to develop K-12 science lessons based on materials research.
MRSEC: Elementary through high school (K-12) students MRSEC's offer a variety of activities designed to make science accessible to students. Faculty, post doctorate associates, graduate students, and staff offer hands-on lessons, demonstrations, support for science fairs, mobile laboratories, and mentorship programs.
MRSEC: Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) offers undergraduates opportunities to participate in materials research projects for ten weeks during the summer. Students receive a specific research project assignment, and then work closely with faculty, post doctorates, and graduate students. Seminars, lunches, and events are coordinated for undergraduates to work and socialize.

Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI) "... an unprecedented and powerful collaboration involving Oregon's three public research universities - Oregon State University, Portland State University, University of Oregon; the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory; the state of Oregon; selected researchers from the Oregon Graduate Institute and the Oregon Health and Sciences University School of Dentistry; and the world-leading "Silicon Forest" high technology industry cluster of Oregon and Southwest Washington."
Western Institute of Nanoelectronics The University of California, Berkeley; UCLA's Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science; UC Santa Barbara; and Stanford University teaming up on one of the world's largest joint research programs focusing on spintronics.
The Nanotechnology Institute Associate Degree Program in Nanobiotechnology. The NTI partners noted below have developed an Associate Degree program to educate community college students as nano-biotechnicians. (Includes high school outreach program.)
Innovation Valley Nano Alliance "A partnership of East Tennessee organizations dedicated to helping accelerate nanotechnology discovery and commercialization using the unique confluence of resources available nowhere else in the world. Our founding partners are: The Oak Ridge National Laboratory; The Y-12 National Security Complex; The University of Tennessee; Technology 2020; and Knoxville-Oak Ridge Innovation Valley."
Alliance for NanoHealth The first collaborative research endeavor aimed solely at bridging the gaps between medicine, biology, materials science, public policy, and nanotechnology. With the principle goal of providing new clinical approaches to saving lives, the Alliance for NanoHealth comprises world-class research institutions and innovative scientists and clinicians from within the Texas Medical Center and greater Houston community. Members include Baylor College of Medicine, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Rice University, University of Houston, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and The University of Texas Medical Branch.
Nanobiotechnology Center (NBTC) The Center brings together experts in their fields from Cornell University, the Wadsworth Center (New York State Health Department in Albany), Princeton University, Oregon Health & Science University, Clark Atlanta University, and Howard University.
Strategic Partnership for Research in Nanotechnology (SPRING): The University of Texas at Austin, Rice University in Houston, The University of Texas at Dallas and The University of Texas at Arlington. "... a partnership to help position the state as a center for education, research and development in the cutting-edge science of nanotechnology."
COSMQC - Center for Oxide Semiconductor Materials for Quantum computation "... to develop oxide- semiconductor materials capable of scalable quantum information processing using spins in semiconductors."
Use of Carbon Nanotubes in Space NASA, Michigan State University, University of Pennsylvania, Clemson University, Carnegie-Mellon University.
Nanotec NI "Northern Ireland's nanotechnology engine for new wealth creation. Nanotec NI involves the University of Ulster and Queen's University Belfast, together with Invest Northern Ireland, the Department for Employment and Learning, and various Northern Ireland Industries in a strategic partnership."
Nanofactory "A portal to showcase and connect providers of nanoscience and micro-technology based in the Yorkshire and Humber region with other regional, national and international communities and users."
National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) "an integrated networked partnership of user facilities, supported by the National Science Foundation, serving the needs of nanoscale science, engineering and technology."
Members of the NNIN include (and are also listed above):
Prior to March 2004, was called the National Nanofabrication Users Network (NNUN) a NSF-sponsored partnership of user facilities to provide opportunities for researchers to turn new ideas in nanoscale science and technology into experimental reality.
NanoMEMS Edmonton "A registered public-private partnership, NanoMEMS Edmonton is dedicated to fostering the development and growth of micro - and nano-based commercial enterprise across the region."
NCCR “Nanoscale Science” "... a long-term interdisciplinary research effort focusing on nanoscale structures and aiming to provide new impact and ideas for the life sciences, for the sustainable use of resources, and for information and communication technologies." Universität Basel, Institut für Physik
Nanotemplates Network "... a curiosity-driven, interdisciplinary European research team, setup to generate new fundamental knowledge in the field of nanostructures and nanotemplates." Members include University of Oxford, Universitat Wien, Trinity College Dublin and others.
NanoMat "Within NanoMat three research centres of the Hermann von Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren, ten universities with natural and engineering science departments, one Max Planck Institute, an Institute of the Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, three Fraunhofer Institutes, an Institute of the Polish Academy of Science, the DECHEMA and four major companies coordinate their research programmes. The theme of the research is 'Synthesis and investigation of nanostructured metals and ceramics, and investigation of the materials and applications which result from their nanoscale nature.'"
CeNTech "Integrated into the densest network of universities in all over Europe in the German state of North Rhine-Westfalia (NRW), CeNTech provides the ideal environment to direct selected ideas and results of nanotechnological research into technical applications. CeNTech promotes the formation of start-up companies that originate from university research and supports the expansion of companies in the nanotechnology sector. The CeNTech GmbH provides the general conditions for entrepreneurs to further develop their research ideas into marketable products." Münster, Germany
NSF Funded Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centers For Years 2002 - 2006
South African Nanotechnology initiative (SANi) "SANi is currently a strong network of academics, researchers and engineers with an interest in nanotechnology. The common goal of SANi is the establishment of critical mass in South Africa, to the eventual benefit of its entire people. This is one technology wave we may simply not miss."
Rushford Institute for Nanotechnology (RINTek) "We are actively assisting other organizations with information about nanotechnology and are actively working with Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical in Winona, Minnesota to establish a two year nano-technician education program. We are also working with WSU."
White Rose Nanofactory (WRN) WRN consists of universities who are members of The White Rose consortium (www.whiterose.ac.uk) and other regional universities partners in Yorkshire and Humberside.
