“We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with QDC. For sometime now, we have followed the scientific development of Qdot™ technology. Now we see that the technology is a commercial reality, we are very happy to commit to a close partnership with QDC,” stated Toru Umehara, SCB’s President and CEO. “We are looking forward to working closely with our customers in Japan – we are sure they will realize the significant benefits Qdot™ products bring to biological detection. We also believe that there are significant corporate partnering opportunities for QDC in Japan,” continued Mr. Umehara.

“We have now launched two different Qdot™ products, with many more planned for 2003. In the two months since our first product launch, we have received extremely positive feedback from our customers. We are confident in SCB’s ability to provide first class support to Qdot product customers in Japan,” said Carol Lou, QDC’s President. “We believe that SCB will also be of invaluable assistance to us in setting up corporate partnerships in Japan.” Direct product sales and corporate partnering are the two key elements of QDC’s commercialization strategy.

Qdot™ nanocrystals, or quantum dots, are nanometer sized semiconductor crystals that brightly light up specific biological events. These nano-scale molecular light emitting diodes (LEDs) allow rapid, parallel, and ultra-sensitive detection of biomolecular interactions.

SCB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, which is one of the largest trading companies in Japan. SCB’s primary mission is to provide Japanese life science researchers with efficient and competitive tools for drug discovery. SCB has established global networks with biotechnology venture companies and pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Additional information about SCB can be found at www.scbio.co.jp.
