Photonex 2014 - the conference is now complete with the announcement of the Nano and Bio-Imaging programme on applied biophotonics applications

Effingham, UK | Posted on October 7th, 2014

Applying photonics to a broad group of imaging techniques is providing greatly increased information particularly in the fields of medicine and the life sciences. With researchers continually looking for increased resolution with the addition of chemical information, this year's conference provides a comprehensive overview of this rapidly expanding field.

Now in its third year as part of the Photonex event, organisers, Xmark Media, have again been able to attract a talented team of international speakers who will describe their work using high-resolution imaging techniques. This year's line-up of nine speakers will be complemented with a poster session. Among the varied topics is a presentation by Professor Valentin Nagerl of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience of the CNRS based at the University of Bordeaux, France. He will talk on how he uses STED microscopy to gain a better understanding of neuronal synapses in real time and in vivo. An example of the use of spectroscopy to gain high resolution chemical information is the topic of Dr Sumeet Mahajan from the Chemistry and Institute of Life Sciences at the University of Southampton. He images cells using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy to image biochemical changes and understand molecular phenomena inside cells.

Photonex, now in its 23rd year organised by Xmark Media, is reporting more bookings this year from exhibitors and attendees for the multiple meetings. Co-located with Photonex is Vacuum Expo, an event dedicated to vacuum technologies. There is significant technology overlap such as when photonics is applied for surface analysis in the vacuum environment.

Potential visitors and contributors to the scientific programme are encouraged to visit Photonex website (www.photonex.org) and to register to visit today.
