Abstract:
Iranian researchers at the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) produced eight carbon nanostructured products by using domestically-made devices at semi-industrial scale.
Iranian Oil Industry Researchers Produce 8 Carbon Nanostructured Products
Tehran, Iran | Posted on February 3rd, 2013
The eight products include graphene, graphene oxide, nanoporous graphene, single-walled carbon nanotube, multi-walled carbon nanotube, carbon nanofiber, nanocarbon, carbon nanoball (carbon nano-sphere).
According to the RIPI, semi-industrial units have been built in order to produce the eight carbon nanostructured products.
The products were put on display in the inauguration ceremony of the new center of the RIPI, which was held in the presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The ceremony hosted the oil minister, his deputies, head of presidency center for innovation and technology cooperation, and the authorities of the RIPI. In this ceremony, the experts presented to Dr. Ahmadinejad a report of their activities in the field of the application of nanotechnology in gas and oil industry.
According to the authorities of the RIPI, the significant characteristic in the production of carbon nanostructured products is the use of natural gas as the raw material, and the majority of the products have been synthesized through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method.
Among other projects that are being carried out by the RIPI, mention can be made of the development in the use of light nano-cement, recovery of dead oil wells, carrying out field studies on corrosion and de-sedimentation of pipelines, gas sweetening, production of petrol with high octane number, production of carbon nanotubes, and methods to control and solve the air, soil, and water pollution.
