Cambridge, UK | Posted on April 1st, 2012

The Idea Transform programme has been created to support those developing innovative ideas that can benefit and improve society, in areas as diverse as education, health, finance, community and the environment.

The first weekend event will be held between 20-22 April 2012 at the Cambridge Judge Business School. It will team up people with ideas and those with business, marketing and technical skills to work together intensely over the weekend in order to develop meaningful and innovative projects. Open to all, attendees will benefit from a combination of hands-on, experienced mentors and inspiring keynote speakers to provide the perfect environment to learn, advance their ideas, network with like-minded individuals and enjoy themselves.

At the end of the weekend a high profile judging panel will select those projects that show the most promise and Idea Transform will then work closely with them to provide on-going mentoring and support.

Billy Boyle is co-founder of Owlstone Nanotech Inc; a Cambridge University spin out that has raised $15m of investment to develop and commercialise miniature chemical sensors on a microchip. This technology can be used in applications ranging from homeland security and industrial process control to medical diagnostics, where chemicals on breath can be used to detect disease and illness.

Jack Lang is a serial entrepreneur and business angel. Jack is a trustee of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, which has created a $25 credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard with the aim of promoting knowledge of computer technologies, especially among school age children. Interested in ‘computer science and how the brain works', his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Sciences at Cambridge led to a Computer Science diploma and a spell as Demonstrator in the Computer Laboratory.

Dr Ward Hills has over twenty years of expertise in development and commercialisation of technology. He has a strong record of collaboration with Cambridge and other Universities as well as diverse experience marketing in the defence, medical technology, and venture sectors. He has founded numerous start-ups, managed international projects and sold products in North America, Asia and Europe. For more information on all speakers visit ideatransform.org/speakers

"In my experience developing great ideas into sustainable businesses requires a whole range of skills and support," said Billy Boyle, co-founder, Owlstone Nanotech. "Finding those connections at an early stage can be difficult so I'm delighted that Idea Transform is not only aiming to inspire the next generation of meaningful startups through the weekend event but also providing the support ecosystem they need to grow and thrive."

Alongside its programme of inspirational speakers, Idea Transform has attracted an experienced panel of judges for the event. These include David Gill, managing director of the St John's Innovation Centre, angel investor Peter Cowley and chairman of Cambridge Cleantech Hugh Parnell. Additional judges will be announced shortly.

During the event teams will be able to work with a comprehensive group of expert mentors, drawn from the business development, marketing, investor, software, web design, education and mobile sectors. To see a full list of mentors click here.
