Abstract:
Secretary-General of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council Dr. Saeed Sarkar underlined that promotion and extension of cooperation with Asian states sets a priority for INIC's policies.
Dr. Sarkar made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the eleventh students conference on nanotechnology held at Amirkabir University of Technology on February 23 with a number of nanotechnology professors and researchers in attendance.
"Today, we are glad to have more than 12,000 MSc graduate as well as 2,600 faculty members specialized in various areas of nano science and technology in our country and we certainly hope to improve Iran's rank in an international context" said Sarkar, mentioning INIC's major policies concerning the development of nanotechnology and specialized human resources training.
The INIC secretary-general assessed Asia's position in nanotechnology as satisfactory and went on to mention that "the presence of 6 Asian nations in world's top 12 pioneers of nanotechnology is indicative of the rapid growth of these countries in the field and therefore we shall establish cooperative relationships with our Asian counterparts".
Sarkar referred to the different usages of nanotechnology in the existing industries as a key factor for wealth creation and knowledge generation, and said, "Regarding this fact, INIC has focused on enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises and development of nanotech-based industries."
"According to the statistics, there are 24 companies producing nanotechnology instruments in Iran and the domestic manufacture of more than 30 pieces of high-tech laboratory equipment in the field illustrates the innovative skills and technical competency of Iranian experts," said Sarkar while playing down the effectiveness of the scientific/technological sanctions imposed on Iran by the Western states.
