With the increase in the prices of Oil & Gas and with the Energy crisis, a need was felt to establish an institute dedicated wholly for the purpose of educating and researching about Energy and Petroleum. With this vision in mind, the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies was established.
The University was established at Dehradun through an act of legislation in the State Legislature of Uttarakhand in the year 2003. It is dedicated to promoting education and training in Energy and allied sectors. It is involved in advanced research and development under its research centers.
UPES is India and Asia's first and only University dedicated to the study of Petroleum and Energy sector.
Some of the courses of the programs offered at UPES include:
MBA Logistics & Supply Chain Management,
MBA Aviation management
MBA International Business,
Power System Engineering,
Distance Education MBA
Some of the achievements of UPES include:
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized UPES under the act of UGC 1956 and is the first university with private and public partnerships.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council, which is an autonomous body established by UGC has accredited UPES.
The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has recognized UPES as a Research Institution and received grants for taking forward the research and development.
The Petroleum and Energy Studies at UPES are accredited by the Energy Institute, UK.
UPES is a member of the International Association of Universities.
UPES is an ISO Compliant Institutions since 2005 and is presently certifies as an ISO 9001:2008 institution.
