Hydrogel innovation offers promising breakthrough

Abstract:
Scientists at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN), have successfully invented a new hydrogel system that has important applications in the treatment of neurological disorders, brain and muscle injuries.

IBN's new innovation overcomes the present limitations of existing hydrogel systems by using biodegradable gelatin-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid conjugates, which allows independent control over the stiffness and gelation rate of the hydrogel. The newly developed injectable hydrogel system can control the proliferation and differentiation of cells in both a two-dimensional and three-dimensional cell culture environment.
