Abstract:
SouthWest NanoTechnologies, Inc. (SWeNT), the world leader in high quality, Single-Wall and Specialty Multi-Wall (SMW™) carbon nanotubes (CNT), will feature new CNT inks and CNT materials targeted at energy storage and printed electronics applications at the 2010 Nanotechnology Innovation Summit, December 8 - 10 at the Gaylord Convention Center in Washington, DC.

Southwest Nanotechnologies Featuring New Carbon Nanotube Applications At 2010 Nanotechnology Innovation Summit In Washington, Dc

Norman, OK | Posted on December 9th, 2010

The event is organized by the Nano Science and Technology Institute (NSTI) in cooperation with the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) and the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

CEO Dave Arthur will be on-hand at the event, with SWeNTs CNT Inks, based on V2V™ Ink technology developed by alliance partner, Chasm Technologies, Inc. These inks can be printed using commercial, high-volume printing methods and equipment, including flexographic, gravure and screen printing.

The breakthrough process eliminates the need for subtractive patterning as well as post-production processes needed to remove ink dispersants and surfactants that are present with other printable CNT inks that degrade optoelectronic performance. Combined with SWeNT's unique ability to tailor the synthesis of CNT materials for applications (using its patented CoMoCAT® process), customers are able to print large area, low-cost devices for a wide range of applications including energy-efficient lighting, affordable photovoltaics, improved energy storage and printed electronics.

SWeNT will feature printed samples of its innovative new ink products as well as new applications for its Specialty Multi-Wall (SMW™) CNT.

At the event, SWeNT will also highlight their CNT materials targeted for use in alternative energy applications, specifically Plug-in Electric Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV). The Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries used in current PHEVs have a limited life span due to battery capacity degrading over time and repeated charging cycles. Research has found that enhancing the cathode material of Li-ion batteries with carbon nanotubes not only increases a battery's power, but allows the battery to retain this capacity even after thousands of charging cycles.
