Shortlist announced for the UKTI Business Innovation Awards 2010

UK | Posted on November 25th, 2010

The prestigious Business Innovation Awards 2010, which showcases the very best of UK innovation in science and technology, has announced the nine companies shortlisted for its three award categories - emerging & nano technology, energy & environment, and digital connected world.

Competing in the emerging & nano technology category are Applied NanoDetectors, which develops and supplies nanosensor-based products for the global environmental, healthcare and medical markets, Intrinsiq Materials - an advanced materials company developing technology for applications in health, wellness and printed electronics - and NanoSight, which designs and manufactures nanoparticle analysis instruments.

In the energy & environment shortlist are organic waste recycling specialist GENeco, Perceptive Engineering - a provider of intelligent monitoring and control systems for the process industries - and PhotonStar LED, a designer and manufacturer of award-winning LED illumination products.

The companies shortlisted for the digital connected world award are business continuity management technology developer Clearview Continuity, AEP Networks, which offers secure communications, networking and application access for governments, defence forces and enterprise businesses, and Electronic Media Services, an e-business technology developer.

The judging panel comprised David Bott, director of innovation programmes at the Technology Strategy Board, and David Sharp, UKTI sector specialist, science and innovation. Sharp said: "The Business Innovation Awards' shortlist is an ideal platform to bring credibility and greater awareness to new and evolving applications of science and technology. The entries included many exciting companies from across the UK that all demonstrate the high levels of knowledge and experience held by organisations based here."

An award ceremony and a gala dinner will be held during the Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum event on 7 December at the Painted Hall, Old Royal Navy College, in London. Each winner will receive an engraved award and is able to promote its expertise and success on an international platform, reaching global influencers from across industry and government.

Commenting on his business' Materials & Devices category award win last year, Sandy Gordon, business development manager at Promethean Particles, said: "Being presented with the award at the event raised our profile at the show and definitely increased traffic to our exhibition stand. Post-event it has also enhanced our reputation with existing and prospective customers."

The award ceremony is open to UK exhibitors and delegates attending Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum, which is hosted by the UKTI at London ExCel on December 7-8. The event - comprising 3,000 face-to-face meetings, an exhibition, Business Innovation Awards, a workshop programme and a conference featuring more than 60 speakers - has grown substantially since last year, when Technology World '09 and UK NanoForum '09 were separate events. It provides opportunities for business-to-business collaboration, ensuring that companies of all sizes from SMEs to large corporations have the chance to network and learn from both UK and international companies. Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum is expected to generate £118 million of potential business transactions this year.
