Our view: Region’s tax base needs clear boost

Abstract:
Steps that can expand the region's tax base:

* Attract new business sectors that require their workers to have high levels of technical and scientific know-how. Nanotechnology at SUNYIT is a prime example of a field that can bring in some of the state's and nation's best researchers. Their very presence not only boosts the tax base because of their incomes, but it's likely to attract others in the public and private sector aspiring to work with them.
