Microscopically thin research is a big deal

Abstract:
Two years ago, it was hard to get Robert Haddon to talk about much of anything other than carbon nanotubes.

These days, it's all about graphene.

The hope is that the material would make much smaller and faster computers possible. A video on potential uses of graphene that appears on YouTube.com envisions touch-screen computers the size and thickness of paper, which could be folded into the size of a bookmark.

UC Riverside researchers were among the first to jump on the new material when it became available in wafer form. The wafers the center uses are manufactured by Georgia Institute of Technology, with which UCR has a collaborative agreement.
