First Solar Sponsors National Academy of Engineers Grand Challenge Summit
Tempe, AZ | Posted on April 10th, 2010
First Solar Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR), one of the world's leading manufacturers of photovoltaic modules, is sponsoring the sustainability session of a regional conference designed to address complex issues and enhance student interest in engineering and science, April 8-9 at the Phoenix Biltmore.
The National Academy of Engineers (NAE) Phoenix Grand Challenge Summit will bring together scientists, engineers, students, business leaders and policy makers to discuss critical problems, like energy independence, that must be addressed in order to maintain our quality of life.
Lisa Krueger, First Solar vice president of sustainable development, took part today in a panel discussion focused on reconciling the needs of people with the Earth in the 21st century. Kathy Weiss, First Solar vice president of government relations, will present tomorrow in an energy plenary session keynoted by Kristina Johnson, under secretary for energy for the U.S. Department of Energy.
As part of First Solar's commitment to the environment, the company has developed a module recycling process that enables substantially all module components to be recovered and reused in new solar modules or other new products. First Solar is the only PV manufacturer to voluntarily implement a prefunded collection and recycling program.
