Editorial: The knowledge industry

Abstract:
A sweeping new initiative involving all seven Greensboro college and university presidents and a who's-who of local executives will identify and champion several projects designed to create jobs and strengthen the work force.

Teamed with executives from companies such as American Express, Samet Corp., VF Corp. and Volvo Financial Services, the presidents will meet monthly for six months.

...it would stress three key components:

-- Collaboration, such as the alliance between N.C. A&T and UNCG to create a Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering.

-- Speed, meaning the group would seek to achieve "at least one quick win" early on.

-- And marketing, which would involve capitalizing on Greensboro's higher education assets to set it apart.
