Abstract:
Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences worry that fundamental research in nanomaterials and nanotechnologies in our country lags well behind the rest of the world and can never reduce the gap.

Russia Has Problems With Nanotechnologies

Nearly one-third of young Russian scientists moves their research abroad, because Russian scientific institutions lack necessary hardware for experiments. As for foreign countries, nanotechnology hardware and facilities develop very rapidly. These facilities include hi-res scanning electron microscopes, which cost up to $6 million.

Russian Academy of Sciences hasn't got enough funds to pay for such expensive devices. Possible solution is cooperation with research institutes from other countries or open centres for sharing necessary equipment.
