Abstract:
Iranian researchers could find a way for treating wastewater by synthesizing some semiconductor nanocomposites.
According to the Iranian Nanotechnology Initiative, in this method the researchers of the Islamic Azad University, Rasht Branch, in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Mohaghegh Ardebili, first synthesized mordenite zeolite to produce the nanocomposite.
"Nanocomposites (semiconductor nanoparticles/zeolite) could facilitate the degradation of organic pigments available in industrial wastewaters through photo-catalytic reactions," said Afshin Poorahmad Nodehi, a member of the research team.
"In order to produce this nanocomposite we first synthesized mordenite zeolite. Then, we embedded semiconductor nanoparticles of nickel sulfide, cobalt sulfide, and nickel cobalt sulfide into these matrices by ion exchange," he added.
Nodehi explained that after the investigations, the best reaction conditions for the production of semiconductors, including reactant concentrations, reaction time, reaction temperature, mixing velocity, and pH of the medium, were determined.
According to the researchers, these materials are also useful in other industries, including photocatalysts, sensors, none linear, photonic, electronic, and optoelectronic optical devices, etc.
