Researchers hope nanotechnology can halt disease spread

Abstract:
Scientists at two Arkansas institutions are developing a new technique aimed at stopping the spread of disease in cancer patients by finding cancer cells in the bloodstream, tracking them as they move through the body and killing them.

It's a technique that uses lasers and carbon nanotubes - tiny tubular-shaped particles that are about 25,000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair - to target the cells, said Alexandru Biris, chief scientist at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Nanotechnology Center.
