Trading Day: TSX retreats from six-month high

Abstract:
Burnaby-based Tekmira Pharmaceuticals gained 36 cents, or 37 per cent, to $1.33 Monday. The company's nanoparticle delivery technology moves a new class of drugs, RNA interference drugs, that switch off disease-causing genes. Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche has agreed to pay Tekmira up to $18.4 million US, along with $32 million U.S. in milestone payments and additional royalties if Roche's new drugs receive FDA approval and achieve commercial success. RNA interference research received the 2006 Nobel prize for medicine.
