FUJIFILM Manufactures Media Capable of Up to 3TB Capacity in New Sun StorageTek Drive

VALHALLA, NY | Posted on August 18th, 2008

FUJIFILM Recording Media U.S.A., Inc. today announced that media manufactured by Fujifilm for the new Sun StorageTek™ T10000B Tape Drive is capable of storing up to three terabytes (TB) of data (using industry standard 3:1 compression). The media for the new Sun StorageTek T10000B provides superior levels of enterprise tape storage performance with 120 MB/sec native transfer rate.

"Being able to bring continued advances to our high capacity, reliable enterprise-class storage solutions is critically important to our customers who are managing exploding volumes of increasingly valuable data," said Jon Benson, Senior Vice President, Storage, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "By working closely with other world-class technology providers such as the tape engineers at Fujifilm, our new one terabyte drive is bringing the next generation to market today."

This announcement highlights Fujifilm's manufacturing and thin-film coating expertise, building on the advances of Fujifilm NANOCUBIC technology. Fujifilm is the only company to deliver NANOCUBIC-based storage media for data centers demanding a reliable solution for increasing storage capacities. Today, data storage systems contain volumes of critical customer and/or business information. Three terabytes of storage is considered enough to hold the digitized content from a single academic research library.

"Fujifilm continues to supply reliable, high capacity media for these mission-critical data center back up solutions based on our NANOCUBIC technology," noted Peter Faulhaber, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Fujifilm Recording Media U.S.A., Inc. "With the volume of digitized data accelerating over the next decade and the increased need for secure, encrypted storage for healthcare and financial compliance regulations, the industry must continue to develop solutions for the storage, management, transport and recovery of highly valuable data."

Fujifilm is a global technology innovator that invests nearly $4 million every day in research and development, using its enormous library of proprietary chemistry and advanced thin-film engineering expertise to create new products and advance existing businesses as customer needs evolve.

About NANOCUBIC

Already recognized by the industry as an enterprise-class tape solution, Fujifilm NANOCUBIC technology combines nano-scale particles, a unique dual-coating process and advanced dispersion techniques to achieve an ultra-thin magnetic layer that produces higher resolution for recording digital data, ultra-low noise and high signal-to-noise ratios that are ideal for Magneto-Resistive (MR) and Giant Magneto-Resistive (GMR) heads. Engineered for superior archival and reliable performance, Fujifilm NANOCUBIC technology introduces a new binder and a super-fine magnetic particle to provide more stable chemical and physical performance.
