Universities share information on nanotechnology
Eau Claire, WI | Posted on April 2nd, 2008
UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout and the Chippewa Valley Technical College have coordinated a series of events throughout the day. Activities include:
• 8:30 to 11 a.m., Fall Creek Elementary School. Dr. Doug Dunham, director of the UW-Eau Claire Materials Science Center, and student Patrese Hoffman, will present "An Elementary Introduction to Nanotechnology" to fourth-graders. The presentation will focus on materials science and nanotechnology.
• 11:15 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., Web cast. Dr. Forrest S. Schultz of UW-Stout and students will lead a "Nanoscience and Nanotechnology" Web cast. They will present developments in nanotechnology driven solar coating research. It will include an overview of the NanoSTEM Partnership among UW-Stout, CVTC and UW-Eau Claire.
• 1 to 2:30 p.m. "An Introduction to Nanotechnology" will be presented to fourth-graders at Osseo-Fairchild Elementary School.
• 4 to 5 p.m., Room 117, Phillips Science Hall, UW-Eau Claire. Dr. Naomi Halas of Rice University in Texas will give a technical talk titled "Playing with Plasmons."
• 6:15 to 7 p.m., Phillips Science Hall, UW-Eau Claire. The Materials Science Center will host an open house, featuring nanoscience displays. Hands-on nanoscience displays will help illustrate important concepts in nanoscience.
• 7:30 to 8 p.m., Room 007, Phillips Science Hall, UW-Eau Claire. Dr. Naomi Halas of Rice University in Texas will give a talk titled "Merging Nanotechnology with light for Biomedicine." Halas will describe applications and discuss how they may change the way doctors practice medicine.
As a service to the community, The Spectator publishes upcoming events. Events must be submitted to The Spectator office by 5 p.m. Monday for the Thursday issue and 3 p.m. Friday for the Monday issue and will be published as space allows.
