Abstract:
With laser diffraction now the standard technique for routine particle size measurement across a diverse range of industries, continued growth in sales of Mastersizer® and Spraytec(TM) systems has prompted an expansion of the team at Malvern® Instruments. Dr Steve Ward-Smith has moved into the role of Key Account Technical Specialist and Dr Anne Virden joins the company as Laser Diffraction Technical Specialist.

Buoyant Sales Prompt Further Expansion of the Malvern® Instruments Laser Diffraction Team

Malvern, UK | Posted on September 11th, 2007

Steve Ward-Smith joined Malvern Instruments in 1995 following the completion of a PhD where he applied the technique of laser diffraction to understanding the stability of food emulsions. During his 12 years as an applications scientist, Steve has used his extensive experience of the laser diffraction technique to aid sales development, particularly within the pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries. In his new role he will be part of the team that provides support to the increasing number of multinational organisations who have selected Malvern as a global supplier for materials characterization systems, working in partnership with them in applications support and knowledge transfer. He already has close working relationships with major pharmaceutical and a wide variety of other companies.

Malvern's Mastersizer 2000 and Spraytec systems are widely viewed as the benchmarks in many applications and industry sectors. Anne Virden will work in the critically important areas of applications development and training, providing support both for customers and for the Malvern teams around the world. Having recently completed a PhD at the University of York working on magnetic nanomaterials, and sponsored by the European Space Agency, Anne has experience with a wide range of advanced characterization techniques.

Welcoming her to the company, Paul Kippax, product manager for diffraction systems at Malvern Instruments, said: "Anne will add another dimension to the laser diffraction group at Malvern. She brings the experiences both of her recent research in an exciting and highly topical field, and of teaching in a university environment. Malvern's continued growth in laser diffraction underlines the technique's proven benefits in particle sizing. It also reflects Malvern's long experience and leadership in the development and application of the technology." www.malvern.com
