Top talent hard to hire at UW

Abstract:
Last year, the University of Washington pulled out all the stops to woo a top scientist in the field of nanotechnology.

The UW flew in the scientist, Gabriel Aeppli, from London. UW President Mark Emmert took the unusual step of bringing him to Olympia to meet with Gov. Chris Gregoire and state lawmakers. Impressed by Aeppli, the Legislature gave UW $4.5 million to upgrade its Center for Nanotechnology in a bid to lure the star.
