Today, House Committee on Science and Technology Chairman Bart Gordon (D-TN) officially announced the full committee membership, subcommittee chairmen and subcommittees for the 110th Congress.

he committee has added one subcommittee from the previous line-up in the 109th Congress - the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight - and altered the names of several subcommittees to better reflect their jurisdictions.
In addition to the new Investigations & Oversight Subcommittee, the other four subcommittees are Energy & Environment, Technology & Innovation, Space & Aeronautics and Research & Science Education.
The subcommittee chairmen and ranking members for the 110th Congress are as follows:
Subcommittee on Energy & Environment:

Subcommittee on Technology & Innovation:

FULL COMMITTEE JURISDICTION
The Committee on Science and Technology has jurisdiction over much of the non-defense Federal research and development (R&D) portfolio. Federal agencies that fall under the Committee's jurisdiction include all or parts of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
Subcommittee on Energy and Environment
The Subcommittee handles issues related to environmental science and U.S. energy policy. It oversees civilian R&D programs within DOE, including basic energy research, energy R&D, demonstration and commercialization programs for fossil, renewable, and nuclear energy, and conservation; R&D programs at NOAA; and research at the Environmental Protection Agency. Recent issues before the Subcommittee include NOAA satellite programs, the clean coal program, energy research, technologies to mitigate climate change and the future of DOE's national laboratories.
Subcommittee on Technology and Innovation
The Subcommittee handles issues related to the technological competitiveness of the U.S. It has jurisdiction over surface transportation research at the Department of Transportation, R&D programs at NIST, R&D programs at DHS, and the legal framework for competitiveness and technology policy. Recently, the Subcommittee has studied standards for voting machines, strengthening U.S. manufacturing, transportation research and homeland security R&D.
Subcommittee on Research and Science Education
The Subcommittee handles issues related to education, basic research, and the health of the U.S. academic research enterprise. It oversees NSF programs and OSTP. Recently, the Subcommittee has dealt with science and math education, computer security and government-wide R&D initiatives such as information technology and nanotechnology.
Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics
In general, the Subcommittee handles issues related to civilian aviation and U.S. space activity. This includes NASA, commercial space activities within the Department of Transportation and the Department of Commerce and the aviation R&D activities of the FAA. Recently the Subcommittee has dealt with the next generation of air traffic control, NASA aeronautics programs and NASA's Vision for Space Exploration.
Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight
The Subcommittee handles investigative and oversight activities on matters covering the entire jurisdiction of the Committee on Science and Technology. This Subcommittee is new for the 110th Congress.
