New nanotech facility fuels big plans at UVa

Abstract:
The $43.4 million facility, which opens today, is part work of art, part engineering feat. The building’s interior design exudes a chic style more reminiscent of a Manhattan loft than a science facility, with airy sun-lit office space and state-of-the-art laboratories. But behind the scenes, the building is a complex engineering achievement, one with a single purpose: nanotechnology.
