4th NanoSpain Workshop, 12-15 March, 2007 Sevilla (Spain)

The seven year-old NanoSpain network (www.nanospain.org) aims to agglutinate and coordinate the efforts made in the field of the Nanotechnology by Spanish groups from universities, research institutes and companies. Moreover, this network supported the government institutions in defining potential actions and plans referring to this area. Currently the NanoSpain network, comprising 191 Spanish groups with near 1200 researchers in total, is one of the widest Spanish scientific networks.
As a direct and most effective way to enhance the interaction between our network members, three meetings were organised in San Sebastian (2004), Barcelona (2005) and Pamplona (2006) with respectively around 210, 260 and 262 participants registered. Due to this success, the network decided organising this year its fourth meeting in Seville with a similar format.
Its objective will also be to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge, promote interdisciplinary discussions among the different NanoSpain group ands enhance industrial participation. In order to organise the various sessions and to select contributions, the meeting will be structured in the following thematic lines, but interactions among them will be promoted:
- NanoBiotechnology/Nanomedicine
- NanoMaterials
- NanoElectronics/Molecular Electronics
- NanoChemistry
- Nanomagnetism
- Nanotubes
- NEMS / MEMS
- Scanning Probe Microscopies (SPM)
- Scientific Policy
- Simulation at the nanoscale
Thematic Sessions will also be organised to enhance information flow between network partners and in particular:
- Exchange information of current work in specific research areas
- Solve particular technological problems
- Look for areas of common ground between different technologies
- Provide contributions to specific reports
The following Thematic Sessions will be organised:
- Molecular Electronics (Coordinators: Julio Gomez & Pablo Ordejon)
- NanoBiotechnology (Coordinator: Josep Samitier)
- NanoFabrication (Coordinators: Francesc Perez-Murano & Fernando Briones)
- Industrial (Coordinators: Isabel Obieta & Emilio Prieto)
- NanoChemistry (Coordinators: Jaume Veciana & David Amabilino)
Another objective of this meeting will be to permit considering the situation of Nanotechnology in our country, as well as in reaching conclusions concerning the future of the NanoSpain network, in order to guarantee its continuity by means of concrete proposals and a renovation of its structures.
