Abstract:
Japan's new Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has vowed to take up the torch of reform from former premier Junichiro Koizumi, in a bid to calm investor worries that the economy is low on his agenda.
Abe earlier appointed former bureaucrat and science policy chief Koji Omi, 73, as finance minister. Omi is a graduate of Tokyo's prestigious Hitotsubashi University and a prominent figure in science circles with an interest in nanotechnology.
