Graphene composites may succeed where nanotubes fail

Abstract:
For many years, it was accepted that carbon only came in two elemental forms: the very hard diamond, and the very soft graphite. Then along came Sir Harry Kroto and chums, who discovered a third form, one that resembled the geodesic domes of forward-thinking architect Buckminster Fuller, and thus were born the fullerenes, and a lot of lofty predictions about nanotubes and space elevators.
