South Africa Has High Hopes for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells
Abstract:
The hydrogen economy is a billion-dollar research industry. SA, with its R5m/year investment, is a mere dabbler. But now government wants to join a hi-tech game that could add value to SA's most precious resources and position the country as a player in a new technology arena. The hydrogen economy is a billion-dollar research industry. SA, with its R5m/year investment, is a mere dabbler. But now government wants to join a hi-tech game that could add value to SA's most precious resources and position the country as a player in a new technology arena. The centre, which is now within the globally recognised SA Institute for Advanced Materials Chemistry (SAIAMC), has achieved significant fuel-cell breakthroughs in locally produced catalysts and membranes based on nanotechnology.
