Lectures at Monterrey Tech in Mexico to introduce students to nanotechnology
The Nanoethics Group to Speak at International Physics Symposium

The Nanoethics Group today announced that it has been invited to speak at the 8th International Physics Symposium in Monterrey, Mexico, on February 16-18, 2006. The event is particularly important to introduce nanotechnology to university students - who represent the future of the industry - through lectures and discussions with experts from such organizations as Harvard Medical School, NASA and Rice University.
As the research director for The Nanoethics Group, Patrick Lin, Ph.D., will present a survey of the ethical and societal issues that nanotechnology raises, such as related to: regulation; environment, health and safety; society; politics and markets; personal life; and religion and morality. Specific questions to be explored include: whether existing laws are adequate to protect the public from any hazards related to nanotechnology; what kind of political and economic disruption might occur from nanotech; and more.
"We are excited to have Dr. Lin introduce us to nanoethics, since we as scientists should also be considering these issues," said Fernando Guajardo, symposium co-organizer. "With his lecture and others, our symposium will help prepare students and professionals for the age of nanotechnology and ensure that knowledge is shared internationally. Collaboration across borders will be a key to everyone's success."
As a high-profile venue for the symposium, Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey is the flagship campus of Mexico's largest private university, which is internationally recognized for its academic excellence, and the historic city is also known as the business capital of Mexico. The International Physics Symposium is organized and funded by the Physics Student Association at ITESM in Monterrey and is attended by students from other public and private universities as well.

"They have shown tremendous initiative and resourcefulness in organizing such an important event, year after year.
