Ready … Shoot … Aim

Abstract:
Consider what’s happening in Japan these days, for example. The government there has identified four distinct R&D areas for future development -- life sciences, information and communication technology, environmental science, and nanotechnology and materials. It has set up competition within research organizations in all of these areas, and it has further prioritized five sub-areas in the nano arena, three of which include new materials.

“Nanotechnology is the base technology of an industrial revolution in the 21st century,” says Michiharu Nakamura, executive VP at Hitachi. “Those who control nanotechnology will lead the industry.”
