Where are all the New Products?

Abstract:
Alan B. Shalleck: When I first became deeply involved with nanotechnology four years ago, 2005 was the year touted by all the “experts” as the “magical” year … the year that new nanoproducts would start to pour out of the massive funding that would be spent on nanotechnology from 1999 on. “Invest for five years and all will payoff wonderfully from there on,” they said. I can show you the original estimates in the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) with predictions and time scales for commercialization. “The revolution would start in 2005” … we bet our tax and private money on it.
