Funding increase of $300m sought for education

Abstract:
This year, total state funding for higher education is $856 million, according to the state Board of Higher Education. Governor Mitt Romney has proposed spending $888 million next year, an increase of 3.7 percent, but most of the increase is earmarked for nanotechnology research at UMass-Lowell.
