Nanoparticles mop up trichloroethene

Abstract:
Trichloroethene pollution of groundwater has serious implications for human health and the environment, and is also expensive to clean up. Now, researchers at Rice University and Georgia Institute of Technology, both in the US, have found that gold nanoparticles coated with palladium are extremely effective catalysts for breaking down the chemical into less harmful products.
