Nano Central

Abstract:
Manufacturing, materials, and medicine—the three Ms—have been at the core of Northeast Ohio's economy for a long time. The region's ability to be an innovative leader in each of those three segments has fueled the region's wealth and progress for more than 100 years.

Ohio pretty much sat on the sidelines during the information technology revolution of the 1990s, because IT had a limited impact on any of the three "M" industries. But now an "N"—nanotechnology—is emerging as one of the most important drivers in those three key sectors. Indeed, as a native of Northeast Ohio and a venture capitalist focused on emerging technologies, the value created by the marriage of the three Ms with nanotechnology has become the central theme of my work.
