Race is on to build a better chip
Abstract:
At IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, Stuart Parkin is tinkering with the future of chip-making. At the center of his lab is a machine that looks like a heap of stainless steel with wires going every which way. But in fact, it's a high-vacuum apparatus that can make chips using any number of different chemical materials.
