Local companies and researchers garner nanotechnology patents in 2004
Abstract:
Technical innovations and R&D collaborations involving nanotechnology continue to flourish in the Capital Region. This area's major investment in tiny technology is beginning to pay off with commercially significant advances in quantum dots, LEDs, MEMS devices, carbon nanotube filters and carbon nanotube diodes. On June 17, Evident Technologies Inc.'s U.S. Patent Application Publication 2004/0115817 for surface-modified semiconductor nanocrystal (quantum dot) complexes was published. Quantum dots are semiconductor nanocrystals that fluoresce when illuminated, emitting bright colors that can identify and track properties and processes in various applications.
