GE's sandbox for scientists

Abstract:
Seeking to fend off its competitors and stay ahead of the technology curve, the company founded by Thomas Edison is placing big bets on long-term advanced research. The company has made a $100 million capital investment in the GE Global Research Center to renovate older labs, add a wing of "wet" labs for biotechnology and nanotechnology research, and build a lodge and conference center.
