UCSC adds new department
Abstract:
UC Santa Cruz has started a new department that blends engineering, computer science, biology and chemistry. The new department of biomolecular engineering builds on UCSC’s renowned programs in bioinformatics and offers a new approach to biomedical discovery. "We are the only department like this in the country," said David Deamer, a professor of chemistry and biochemistry and acting chairman of the new department. "Our faculty are interested in biomolecules, genomics, nanotechnology and biomedical applications, with a strong emphasis on computational approaches in their research."
