Funds Find Nanotech Alluring But Still Risky

Abstract:
Despite getting a heap of hype, the emerging field of nanotechnology still has a ways to go to reach the mainstream. Nanotech materials and devices are built on a molecular scale. Some scientists say nanomachines will let engineers create nearly anything by arranging molecules with atomic precision. That might be so, but it's many years ahead. So said a panel of venture capital executives who have invested in nanotech companies. They gathered last month at a conference hosted by the nonprofit Foresight Institute of Palo Alto, Calif.
